The four largest lakes, Steinberger See, Murner See, Brückelsee and Knappensee, form the heart of the Upper Palatinate Lake District; in total there are over 2,000 ponds and 300 lakes. The circular hiking trail is signposted from Pertolzhofen a GPX track to download. If you want to get to the Stone of Eternity and the Tanzacker sculptures on a trekking or city bike, you should start the detour in Pertolzhofen and turn around at the sculptures and return to Pertolzhofen. You need an MTB for the circular hike. Quite deep ruts in some sections pose a risk of falling and after the tour you may have to clean a little more than usual.
