The Seeoner Seen nature reserve includes seven lakes: Griessee, Brunnensee, the three connected lakes Seeleitensee, Mittersee and Jägersee as well as Klostersee and Bansee. The nature reserve is a refuge for many plant and animal species that are threatened with extinction and therefore has a diverse range of flora and fauna. Nature lovers can observe numerous species of birds, butterflies and dragonflies here. Seeon-Seebruck with its three parts of the municipality is an ancient settlement and cultural area. There are some nationally significant archaeological monuments from prehistoric and early historical times. “Bedaium” (Seebruck) is also one of the best-researched Roman towns in Bavaria. The Seeon Monastery was founded in 994, and its famous writing school received orders from Emperor Heinrich II. Later, the musicians Haydn and Mozart even stayed here for long periods of time. From 1852 to 1934 the monastery was owned by the Dukes of Leuchtenberg. It has been the cultural and educational center of the Upper Bavaria district since 1993. (Source: Chiemsee-Chiemgau.Info)

The oak stands a little higher on a small hill. The musician and composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) often visited the musical Benedictine monastery in Seeon from Salzburg. According to stories, Mozart is said to have regularly rested on a bench under the oak tree during his walks. Accordingly, the oak is called Mozart oak. However, it is doubted that the oak is actually that old!
