The Seeoner Seen nature reserve includes seven lakes: Griessee, Brunnensee, the three connected lakes Seeleitensee, Mittersee and Jägersee as well as Klostersee and Bansee. There are some nationally significant archaeological monuments from prehistoric and early historical times. “Bedaium” (Seebruck) is also one of the best-researched Roman towns in Bavaria. The Seeon Monastery was founded in 994, and its famous writing school received orders from Emperor Heinrich II. Later, the musicians Haydn and Mozart even stayed here for long periods of time. According to stories, Mozart is said to have regularly rested on a bench under the oak tree during his walks. Accordingly, the oak is called Mozart oak. However, it is doubted that the oak is actually that old!
