The Klobenstein near Traunstein - not to be confused with the Klobenstein near Kössen - is a hidden, idyllically located place of power on the Traun. If you walk downstream from the Empfinger allotment gardens along the Traun along the old Panzerstrasse, the landscape on this section of the river changes in a breathtaking way within a few hundred meters. The allotment gardens, which are romantic but also at risk of flooding, are followed on the right by a popular sandbank where people grill and swim in the summer. You follow a natural wild orchard, which has been partially covered in fine sand since the last flood. Behind it is the sewage treatment plant, a less aesthetic sight, also for the nose. But immediately behind it a forest begins and you can see the Klobenstein protruding from the bank from afar. The Klobenstein is embedded in a mystical landscape between the Traun, a towering Nagel river wall and the backwater of the river. The bridge over the Altwasserbach, which was destroyed in the 2013 flood, has since been repaired. Kloben comes from Middle High German and originally meant split wood. The Klobenstein consists of two huge rocks that probably broke out of the Nagefluwand and fell into the Traun, i.e. split out of the rock face. The horse could hardly carry him any more when he heard his pursuers rushing out behind him. In his greatest distress, he threw himself down in front of an image of the Virgin Mary that was attached to the steep wall of the bank. Suddenly, a boulder broke off high above and crashed down with a thunderous crash. A few steps in front of the terrified knight, the stone split into two pieces, leaving the knight kneeling unharmed in the gap. When the pursuers came, they saw the split rock, but had no idea that the man they were looking for was hidden here. And so the knight was saved.

Approximately 1 km after the roundabout at Hurtöst in the direction of Waging, an inconspicuous forest path branches off from the road to the left. This path is marked with a "pay attention to the right of way" sign, atypical for a forest path. Then it goes about 1 km into the forest until you see a sign to the right "Bitterstein". Either on foot or by mountain bike, another 500 m until you discover the Bitterstein behind young trees.

A large limestone in the shady forest - the boulder exudes calm and is a cool place to take a break. The rock used to be three times as big, but was used as a quarry. Then the stone was declared a natural monument and protected.
