The Fussbergmoos is a moss area that was once part of the large Dachauer Moor. Today it is a protected landscape area with unique flora and fauna. There are 6 heck cattle grazing there; a backward breed of the former aurochs, which populated Europe until the 17th century.

The fountain commemorates Saint Alto, a wandering monk from the 8th century. According to legend, he is said to have founded the monastery of Altomünster. During construction, it is said that there was a lack of water. The monk rammed his staff into the ground and clear spring water spurted out..... The source is in the Altowald.

Saint Alto († around 760) was a hermit monk of Irish descent who worked in the area of present-day Altomünster in Bavaria; he is depicted on the local coat of arms. According to tradition, Alto is said to have founded the Altomünster monastery. His memorial day is February 9th. The name Alto means "tall" in Latin. According to this vita, Alto was an Irishman who was instructed in a vision to leave his homeland and embark on a missionary journey in a peregrinatio propter Christum (Latin for 'pilgrimage for Christ's sake'). In this way Alto came to Bavaria, where King Pepin the Younger gave him a forest (still called Altowald today) and Alto founded a monastery, the monasterium altonis, which was consecrated by St. Boniface. Here Alto led a holy life, which Otloh explains in three miracle stories. Legends tell of how Alto used his knife to mark the trees that needed to be cleared, and then they fell down of their own accord. Birds would have carried away the branches and twigs and thus helped in the construction of the church. When there was a lack of water when the monastery was being built, Alto used his staff to spurt a spring that was soon visited as a healing spring. (Source Wikipedia)
