The Stör estuary in Schleswig-Holstein is a scenic area where the Stör flows into the Elbe. The Stör is a major tributary of the Elbe and stretches approximately 85 kilometers from its source near Neumünster to its mouth near Wewelsfleth. The region around the Stör estuary offers numerous recreational opportunities and nature experiences. One of the main attractions is the Stör Barrage, which serves to protect the inland areas from flooding and storm surges. The barrage, built in the 1970s, regulates the water level of the Stör and protects the adjacent marshlands. For nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, there are numerous cycling and hiking trails along the Stör and its estuary. The Elbe Cycle Path and the Monks' Path lead directly through this region and offer magnificent views of the river landscape and passing ships on the Elbe.

Since March 2013, the former Bundeswehr training area in Nordoe and immediately adjacent areas in the area of the municipalities of Dägeling, Kremperheide and Breitenburg have been a 407 large nature reserve. The Nature Conservation Foundation, together with the communities involved, wants to permanently protect the "inland dunes of Nordoe" on an area of 407 hectares. The former military use has preserved the rest of an old inland dune area here and a partly uncoupled common land landscape these are protected from intensive agriculture, drainage, plowing up, fertilization or large-scale afforestation.Distinctive habitats include open sand pioneer plains, pine-covered inland dunes, grasslands, heather inland dunes, damp dwarf shrub heaths, and kratt-like oak forests.Many of the plant and animal species found in the area are Rare and highly endangered. Here you will find one of your last retreats in Schleswig-Holstein. The aim of protected area management is to preserve a spacious, open landscape in which the nutrient-poor conditions in particular are preserved.
