The Bokeler Heide nature reserve is located in the municipality of Sprakensehl, north of Hankensbüttel and southeast of the village of Bokel in the Südheide natural area and is around 18 hectares in size. Due to the nutrient-poor sandy soils and the historical forms of land use, heather has developed as the predominant biotope type, partly with juniper stands and dry bushes. Older birch and pine trees are occasionally found.

Bokel Heath - between Schweimke and Bokel The Bokeler Heide nature reserve is located in the municipality of Sprakensehl, north of Hankensbüttel and south-east of the village of Bokel in the natural area of Südheide and is around 18 hectares in size. Due to the nutrient-poor sandy soils and the historical forms of land use, common heather has developed as the dominant biotope type, partly with juniper stands and dried bushes. Older birch and pine trees are scattered. The Bokeler Heide represents a habitat that is rare in Northern Germany for the flora and fauna that depend on the local conditions. In addition, the nature reserve, as a relic of a form of land use that was formerly widespread in Lower Saxony, is also important for science as well as for natural history and local history.

The Störkathener Heide, officially also the "Heide area nature reserve near Kellinghusen" is a nature reserve near the village of Störkathen in Schleswig-Holstein. The “heathland near Kellinghusen” belongs to the Holsteinische Vorgeest natural area and is part of a larger inland dune area that was formed on old moraines on the edge of the Stör lowlands after the last Ice Age and stretched from Kellinghusen to Brokstedt. So that the existing occurrences of common heather, bell heather and dwarf shrub heather are not displaced by pine forest, the area is tended with heather sheep. A small part of the area is swampy. An educational trail leads around the site. The nature reserve is looked after by the Steinburg district as the lower nature conservation authority. The area is one of the last remnants of the formerly large heathland areas on the Holstein Geest, along with other small remaining areas in the area. In 1913, the leather manufacturer C. Westphal donated the necessary money to the town of Kellinghusen to purchase the area on the condition that the heather be preserved “in its present form”. The site was placed under protection as early as 1938. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St%C3%B6rkathener_Heide
