It's kind of interesting. The man to whom the memorial stone is dedicated is completely unknown in terms of history. And yet the stone has survived. Given current developments and political discussions, I'm almost surprised that the stone is even allowed to remain standing. But history doesn't have to/shouldn't be revised...

The memorial stone was erected for Toni Gölz. His club, the Bingen Ski Club, keeps the memory of the man who died there on June 20, 1937 alive. But what story lies behind this plaque? Toni Gölz was a member of the Bingen Ski Club, but also participated in an NSKK association close to home. The abbreviation NSKK stood for "National Socialist Motor Corps". The NSKK group, to which Toni Gölz belonged, was also called upon to take part as a team in a luggage march competition on the Großer Feldberg. Toni Gölz suffered a heart attack, probably due to overexertion at the said spot, and died. The part that referred to the inglorious past of its member's NSKK membership was chiseled out again after the Second World War, so that today's memorial stone is still preserved in its original form, but helps to keep a little secret. Toni Gölz was a member of the Bingen ski club, but also participated in a local NSKK association. The NSKK group, to which Toni Gölz belonged, was also asked to take part as a team in a luggage march competition on the Großer Feldberg. The baggage march started on June 20, 1937 at 8:00 a.m. with the departure from Kronberg’s market square. Toni Gölz suffered a heart attack at this point due to overexertion and died. The shock was deep with the club members of the Bingen ski club. Mourning the death of their member, a memorial stone was placed to commemorate the tragic event, which also gave a lot of information about this event. The part referring to the inglorious past of the member's NSKK membership was carved out again after the Second World War.
