The tour is worthwhile from both below and above. The crater floor was muddy.

It was a great sight to see and our daughter also found it very exciting, even though we weren't allowed to go all the way in.

The crater is not far from the main path. You can look right into it - but entering it is not permitted (at least not at the moment). And that is for your own safety, as the crater is quite muddy. Not far from the entrance there is an information board with precise details.

A very attractive route.

Not only the Wiedtal itself is worth a tour. From there you can turn off at several points up to the Westerwaldhöhen and from there you can ski down charming routes with a great view back into the Wiedtal. It's a bit more strenuous, but it's easy to do, especially for e-bikers, and it's almost a must.

The via ferrata remains a bit of a borderline case. Definitely good for practicing and for families. If you are on a longer hike here, it is actually too short and easy to take all the material with you - the result is that some are unsecured (no problem, but probably not in the interests of the community that created it) .
