The springs formed the basis for Bad Mergentheim as a spa town and international health resort. The decisive event was the discovery of salty water by a shepherd and his sheep in 1826.

Three of the four springs, Albertquelle, Karlsquelle and Wilhelmsquelle, are drinking springs based on their mineral composition, whereas the Paulsquelle, which is unsuitable for drinking, is a bathing spring.

The Tauber is an idyllic, small river that rises near Weikersholz and flows into the Main near Wertheim after about 130 km. She accompanies the cyclists on almost the entire “Lovely Taubertal” cycle path, between Rothenburgo.d.Tbr. and Wertheim and invites you to rest in many beautiful places.

The castle gate tower was built in the 12th century. It is the oldest and highest gate tower in Rothenburg. The gate system with the gatehouse and the two guard and customs houses was only built around 1460/70.
