The High Shore stretches over 3.2 km from the Wustrow pier to the Ahrenshoop border path on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The High Shore is a terminal moraine, formed by the Scandinavian ice sheet more than 10,000 years ago and shaped by the ocean surf. This continues to cause constant change in what is known as the active cliff. The annual coastal erosion can reach up to five meters. Nesting sand martins can be observed below the cliff in the high, steep escarpment. The High Shore is ideal for hiking on foot or by bike, and on a clear day, you can even see the Danish mainland from here. The narrow footpath directly along the cliff offers a wide variety of scenery. It leads through small wooded areas, past sea buckthorn bushes and dog roses, the typical vegetation of the area. The Darß Forest is a forested area on the western part of the Darß Peninsula. There are no settlements within the forest. Surrounding towns are Ahrenshoop and Born to the south, and Wieck and Prerow to the east. The Darß Forest covers 5,800 hectares and is part of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. The area around Darßer Ort and the northwestern part of the forest belong to Protection Zone 1, where no human use is permitted and natural development of the land is encouraged.

The beautiful and wild Darß Forest is always worth a visit.

The tower is located in the middle of the Vorpommern Lagoon Area National Park on the edge of the 4,700 hectare Darß Forest. It is about five kilometers from the Baltic Sea resort of Prerow, and you can only get to the Darß village on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage - enjoy the romantic tour through the rustic forest!
