The local recreation area Hambörn Südergellersen is located one and a half kilometers west of the village Südergellersen and is very varied: Species-rich grassland, small heather areas, the Bürgerwald Südergellersen, a lookout tower (on which you can see as far as Lüneburg and further) and the Hambörn funeral forest are to be found here Find. Trees are planted on another part for special occasions such as weddings and births. An old sheepfold with a Koehler hut is located here and can be used for events. The largest area, however, is made up of a mixed deciduous forest dominated by beeches, which is allowed to develop into a "primeval forest" by renouncing any use. If you want to explore the wider area, you can hike on the Südergellersen corridor trail from here.
