Around 1300, a small Gothic church was built on the site where our church stands today – due to lack of space outside the city walls. The magnificent High Gothic chancel of this old structure is all that remains today. The old coats of arms found in the attic were embedded in the three places on the chancel ceiling where the bell ropes used to hang. One coat of arms is the coat of arms of Württemberg, the second that of the Knights of Hornberg, and the third the coat of arms of the town of Hornberg. All three also date from earlier centuries.

Triberg is particularly famous for Germany's highest waterfalls, its culture surrounding cuckoo clocks (including the world's largest walk-in clock), the picturesque Black Forest Railway, and its role as a center of traditional crafts with museums and unique attractions such as the world's first men's parking space. With the arrival of the railway, the Protestant church received significant support. Large churches and beautiful rectories were built in both Schiltach and Hornberg. Hornberg boasts a small park (and Schiltach has one as well). It's very idyllic, with a great view of the castle and several ice cream parlors nearby.
