Scenic pass that is opened all year round (closes at 6pm in winter). There is hardly any traffic which makes cycling very nice and plenty of opportunities to take pictures. We crossed the pass in early May when there was still plenty of snow up there. The change in scenery where it was all green at Disentis and slowly turning white as we climbed higher... and very quickly turned to green as we rolled down on the south side to Biasca was breathtaking.

Percorso Blenio–Lucomagno No. 36 Through the sun-drenched Valle di Blenio, steeply up to the Passo del Lucomagno, one of the most beautiful pass landscapes in Switzerland. Butterflies swing up the mountain with us, the scenery changes, in the quiet Alpine valley of Santa Maria the firs smell of resin, the tinkling of cows accompanies you to the Passo del Lucomagno. After the Lukmanier we go along the reservoir into the Val Medel, where fragrant alpine roses, tanned wooden houses and roaring water in the Höllenschlucht accompany us to Disentis. Nice pass with little traffic. From the top of the Swiss side you come through a tunnel to the top of the pass, light is advisable here. Can be combined well with the Oberalp Pass (which we drove first) the descent down to Biasca is quite long.

The quality of the road on the north side in Grisons is much better than on the south side in Ticino. Going downhill on a stiff road bike is not as enjoyable on the south side.

The Lukmanier tunnel is about 2 km long, daylit with windows throughout. There is very poor ventilation inside, so traffic exhaust fumes accumulate and give a very distinct unhealthy smell. A respirator mask is advised!

The sign indicates the altitude of 1920 m at the Lukmanier Hospice, at the southern exit from the 2-km-long tunnel running north of the pass, along the east shore of Lake Sontga Maria. However, the road reaches the highest elevation of 1973 m somewhere inside the tunnel.

The Gana Negra formed by a previous landslide. The large black boulders shape this breathtaking, wildly romantic landscape and are made as a playground for bikers. But you have to earn the enjoyment. The ascent is steep in places and the bike has to be pushed or carried at times.

The trail from Passo del Sole down to Acquacalda is classified with S2, and that's how it can be driven. Nice and flowing and only with a few slightly more difficult key passages that come closer to an S3.

From the Lukmanier Pass via the Passo dell'Uomo you reach the Passo del Sole over just under 450 meters in altitude, which is very steep and can only be reached with very good legs in the saddle. But it's worth the effort, because the view and the trail down are perfect.
