Scenic mountain road with spectacular views and great climbs and descents. Asphalt all the way. Weather can change quickly and limited places to seek shelter, so pack warm clothes.

Strong wind, relentless rain, thick fog - you have to expect anything on this pass. But it's still much better than taking the busy tunnel from Tórshavn. For cyclists who arrive by ferry, this is a real test of fire - close your eyes and get through it!

This road is a must for anyone exploring Suðuroy by bike. Almost no traffic, great switchbacks and at the top, a wonderful view of both sides of the island and a rugged gorge. However, it should only be driven on in reasonably good weather. The winds up here can be very brutal. Definitely one of our highlights on our cycling trip across the Faroe Islands.

Here is the crossing (pass) to the other side. On the way up to Altarid you have the first breathtaking view of the steep bank of Kalsoy. It's great, definitely make the climb to the summit.

The pass between Fulgarfjördur and Hellur. Here is the turnoff up to Altarid. There is an amazing view on both sides. If the weather and fitness allow it, definitely take the Altarid. Approx. 1km. There you have a clear view of the Atlantic and the northern tip of Kalsoy.

Funningur is one of the oldest places in the Faroe Islands. According to the Faroe Islands saga, the first settler on the Faroe Islands is said to have settled here around the year 825. The name Funningur comes from the old Norse funding, which means discovery. In the village there is a typical Faroese wooden church from 1847.

Already because of the great view worth a visit.

Before the inner was built this was the road over the mountain to the village of Sumpa. Definitely a must for any cyclist on the island of Suduroy!
