The pass connects Pernitz with Pottenstein and is one of the most beautiful sections in the Gutenstein Alps. The road is narrow and not very busy, perfect for collecting altitude. Auf der Hals can be combined well with the Rohrer saddle. The road climbs gently from Pernitz. Only a little after the end of the village the valley narrows, and there is only room for the road. Slowly but surely, the gradient increases from two to four and at 4.0 kilometers to over seven percent. Before you know it, after 5.3 km you are already up on the neck at the Passhaus and can look forward to the relatively long descent to Pottenstein.
