In 1901, the Erzgebirge branch association in Zwickau began designing the area around the Bellmann fountain. The area was planted with oak trees and the Bellmann hut was built thanks to donations from a member. The place was planned for gatherings of larger groups. The first approved celebrations took place in 1909. In 1930, the grounds were redesigned according to plans by the landscape architect Paul Lorenz. The inspiration for this came from the local Erzgebirge branch association, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in the same year.
