Small ruins on the hill with a great view. Benches invite you to take a break.

Beautiful castle ruins, a great dream loop starts here. But it's still worth a visit.

On December 19, 2020, the hut was made available to the general public. Since then, the interior has been equipped with a sleeping loft of approx. 5 square meters, a 3.5m long solid log table and several benches. The windows and the door keep wind and weather outside. A handcrafted acrylic glass pane is installed in the gable on the south side and allows a view of the sunrise from the sleeping loft. A USB charging station and LED lighting powered by a PV system are available as technical equipment. In the outdoor area, under the roof overhangs, several solid wood seats were installed and also provide visitors with a weatherproof rest area. From 1315 it was built by Archbishop Baldwin of Trier to secure the electorate of Trier. The castle was primarily aimed against the Counts of Sponheim. The counts were rival territorial lords of Trier in this area. In 1332, Balduin received city rights for a settlement near Baldenau from Emperor Ludwig in a collective privilege; in the end, however, such a founding never came about. The castle gave its name to the electoral office of Baldenau, which included fifteen surrounding villages. Two bailiffs, Rulmann von Partenheim and Clas von Nattenheim, have survived in the 15th century. Also in the 15th century, the castle and office were pledged to nobles, an indication of the low importance of the castle at that time. After being damaged several times during the Thirty Years' War, it was repaired as early as 1649, but was finally permanently destroyed in 1689 during the Palatinate War of Succession by French troops under Louis XIV. from 1982 the ruins were secured. In 1981 and 1982, the ruin served as the setting for the first part of Edgar Reitz's Heimat trilogy.

The Teufelsfels observation tower, called Langer Heinrich, offers a good all-round view.

The rock formation is also called the "Kirner Dolomites" - and in fact the Oberhauser Felsen, high above the idyllic Hahnenbach valley, are probably the climbing area par excellence in the southern Hunsrück. Visible from afar, they tower over the town of Kirn with its historic old town and the Kyrburg. At the top of the mountain, after rock climbing, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view over the Hunsrück hills and to Wartenstein Castle.

The vault made of slate is particularly great. On two benches you can enjoy the wonderful quiet place.
