The summit cross at 881 m on the Grosser Feldberg in the Taunus is a striking landmark and a popular destination for hikers. It stands on the highest point of the mountain and offers a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. Of course, you can also sign the summit book directly.

Very popular place. Hikers, cyclists and motorcyclists meet here. Various hiking trails lead off from here in “all” directions.

The red cross marks a pass that was used by historic trade routes and was so important that the Romans built a fort to control it. The castle in Oberreifenberg later served the same function in the Middle Ages.

The Sandplacken (669 m) is the pass between Oberursel and Schmitten im Taunus and thus into the Weil valley, which represents a natural connection towards the Lahn valley and Weilburg. Celtic finds on the Taunushang bear witness to the fact that people were already using this pass in pre-Christian times. In Roman times, the small fort Altes Jagdhaus secured the pass over which the Upper German-Rhaetian Limes runs. There is a hotel (with restaurant) and a café/restaurant on the Sandplacken.
