The 9-hectare Sandberg Nature Reserve, designated ME-035, is located east of the city of Hilden in the Mettmann district. It borders the 8-hectare Hildener Heide Nature Reserve, south of Sandberg (ME-028) to the south, and the 36-hectare Hildener Heide Nature Reserve, Schönholz (ME-003) to the southwest. It is bordered to the east by residential areas of the cities of Haan and Solingen. To the northwest lies the Hilden City Forest, which is also partially protected.
