Singletary Lake State Park is a lovely spot for a quiet stop if you are passing through the area, surrounded by longleaf pine woods and pocosin wetlands that border a natural Carolina bay lake. While the park is geared toward group camping, you can stretch your legs on forest roads and catch glimpses of the lake from the shoreline. It’s a peaceful place to pause, listen to the birds, and get a sense of the coastal plain’s unique ecology.

Jones Lake State Park centers around a rare bay lake formed in a shallow depression of the coastal plain.
