The six-meter-high Oudemirdumerklif formed during the penultimate ice age, when Scandinavian ice sheets pushed up the land, leaving boulders in their wake. The Zuiderzee's wave action ultimately formed three cliffs in Gaasterland. The site is home to some 200 plant species. Badgers and numerous waterfowl also live here.

Beware! Here you can encounter dead animals. Piece of nature where wild animal carcasses are returned to nature and meat eaters.

A unique nature reserve near Wyldemerk, specially protected as a habitat for dragonflies. The reserve consists of fens and swamp forests where dozens of species of dragonflies and other insects float around. Perfect for nature lovers and photographers who want to see these special animals up close.

We visited the beautiful town of Sloten in 2016 and 2017! During our houseboat tour in 2022 we decided to skip Sloten and discover something else instead. In 2023 it was finally time again and we went to Sloten. The "Kibitz" fountain is actually really beautiful, elaborate and spectacularly made and the story behind it is also moving. Unfortunately, the location is not really idyllic, the Sloten fountain "Kibitz" is surrounded by parking lots and streets. Actually, Sloten has such beautiful places, I would have put the fountain somewhere else.

Very interesting stop that refers to the origin of this boulder. Also nice to know that the boulder was originally 4 x as big.

Crossing a nature reserve with very calm cattle roaming free. Shaded areas with benches, near a lake, ideal for taking a break.
