Sarvikallio is a scenic natural area located in Tuusula commune. It is best known for its cliff and panoramic view over Lake Tuusulanjärvi. A wooden stairway takes down to the lake shore from the viewpoint. There is a big parking lot along Sarvikalliontie road, some 500 metres to along the viewing spot along a good trail. The nearest bus stop is in Paijala village, about two kilometres walk to the parking lot. The bus 963 from Kerava railway station to Paijala runs about once an hour.

if you want to enjoy the view for longer, I’d recommend getting down to the river via the parking lot just south of the bridge, never seen any birds here

The lake was dammed in the 1950s. The rising sea level created floating mats of peat on Mustalampi. The rising water detached peat masts from the mire around the lake. These gently drifting "islands" provide safe nesting sites for many birds. Mustalampi is located 14 meters above Haukkalampi. In the years 1948-1951, its surface was raised artificially by damming and felling trees from under the expanding lake. The lake descends to Haukkalampe along Mustalammenpuro through a shady valley. The outdoor path from Haukkalammi to the south runs along the side of the stream. At the dam, there is a steep hill on the road with a soup kitchen on top.

Vantaankoski (Swedish: Vandaforsen) is a culturally and historically significant rapid in Vantaanjoki. It is 240 meters long with a drop of 5 meters. Located within the city of Vantaa, the rapids are divided into three districts. Vantaanlaakso and Piispankylä lie on the west bank, while the east bank belongs to Viinikkala. Especially in spring during the snowmelt, the rapids are very impressive and made a lasting impression on me (according to Wikipedia, the maximum flow rate is 230 m³/s). The area around Vantaankoski is a prehistoric settlement, inhabited since the Stone Age. The site became a transportation hub where roads leading in various directions intersected with a waterway leading north. In the 16th century, communal mills belonging to the villages of Vantaa were built at the rapids. The village of Myllymäki, consisting of just two houses, grew up on the site. In the 1830s, Ruukki began operating and processing ore in the Kvarnbacka rapids.

The Finnish Nature Centre Haltila (https://haltia.com) organised a guided tour of a slash-and-burn forest clearing. The aim of the tour was a clearing with 1.6 hectares of renaturalised forest. The aim of targeted slash-and-burn forest clearing is to restore forests in order to preserve diversity. The aim of the renaturation is to bring the structure of former commercial forests closer to the structure of a natural forest by adding missing features to the forest, such as rotten and burnt wood. The aim is also to make the age structure of the tree population and the tree species more diverse by increasing the proportion of deciduous trees. The renaturation also improves the living conditions of many rare and endangered forest species.

Light traffic but not much space to stand on the bridge to look at the rapids, so watch out for cars.
