4월 23, 2025, Kuuvannokka Rocky Headland
Kuuvannokka is a scenic rocky headland in Turku offering wide views over the Airisto sea area. It’s a rare example of an undeveloped coastal cliff still accessible to the public, making it a great nearby getaway. You can reach it via a short and easy walk, about a kilometre from the nearest car park, using either a quiet road or a nature trail. The spot also features historical rock carvings and was once a popular celebration site for Turku’s university students over a century ago. Although not directly bike-accessible to the tip, it’s easy to leave your bike nearby and continue on foot.

From this bridge you have a very pretty view of the preserved natural rocky shoreline, hiding the town just beyond.

The 52-meter-high observation tower in Livonsaari, built in 2020, is located about 300 meters of hiking trail from the marker (parking lot). A short detour up the hill is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view. If the visibility is good, you can see 9 church towers, which are shown on a display board with the cardinal directions. There is also a dancing rock nearby, where the boys met in the 18th century. There is also a rock church built in 1925. Kalliokirkko is a rock formation formed by nature. It has been speculated that in pagan times it was a place of sacrifice and a hiding place for the residents during raids. If you let your imagination run wild, you can find many uses for it. Christian church uses can also be found in the history of the quarry. Background information in Finnish: https://www.livonsaari.fi/?page_id=360

Glacial pothole in Livonsaari - Finnish "Hiidenkirnu" The Hiidenkirnu is a kettle-shaped depression that was created during the Ice Age. It is estimated that it was born about 8,000 to 7,500 years ago. In the 1920s it was somewhat damaged when the landowner filled it with stones. He was afraid that the sheep would use it as a watering hole and fall in there. The Kirnu was reopened in the 1950s when the stones were removed and at the same time the actual "maker" of Kirnu, namely the turning stone, also disappeared.

7월 9, 2023, Hiidenkirnu Giant's Kettle
According to legend, the round holes were carved into the rock by the Hiids (evil spirits) so they could cook their porridge. Scientists, however, believe they were formed during the melting process of the Ice Age, when the water masses set stones in a circular motion, which then ground depressions into the rock.
