A gigantic spectacle when the locks open just a little at 3 p.m. and the masses of water pour roaring through the gorge. Worth it a) Being on time: It's all over in less than 10 minutes. And b) visit one of the viewpoints that can only be reached on foot via the hiking trail on the east side above the gorge. From there you have a magnificent view of the spectacle.

The Svartedalen nature reserve is a bit remote (arrival on a gravel road), but highly recommended as a hiking area in the typically original forest region of southern Sweden. There are hardly any visitors and a vehicle that is easy to park offers a central base for a second day of hiking, possibly even overnight. In spring you may be lucky enough to observe capercaillie and black grouse displaying, or at least hear their far-reaching calls. Mourning cloaks and several amphibian species can be seen weather permitting.

Very nice little brook gorge. Steep rocks overgrown with moss. A short section in the Ture Dalar Nature Reserve. A small, well-marked circular route leads through the gorge.

The Hojum and Olidan hydropower plants on the 32-meter-high Trollhättan Falls in the Göta älv, Sweden's most water-rich river, provide electricity. The Trollhatte Canal takes boat traffic around the waterfalls. It is interesting to visit the Trollhatte Canal Museum. It is close to the upper lock.
