Beautiful cabin

The Capanna Brogoldone is an alpine pasture with two main huts. One hut can accommodate up to 59 people. The other hut houses a small restaurant. Amazing views from up there!

Take the train up to Monti di Saurù and from there take a lovely hike.

It's simply fantastic up there. It's easily accessible on foot or by the Pizzo di Claro cable car.

The Capanna Brogoldone was once a mountain pasture and is today the result of a desire to preserve the remains of a bygone era. From 1995 to 1998, a group of volunteers set to work renovating the two existing buildings while maintaining the typical structure of the pasture: the former stable became a dormitory, and the building that once served as a cheese dairy and shelter for the mountain herders was converted into a kitchen and dining room. I went up during the day and met some guys along the final ramp who had spent the night there and were returning to the valley. They told me that some of them had gone up the previous evening in the dark and without a flashlight in gym shoes (with snow from 1900 m) and had not identified the signs indicating the direction of the last traverse to the left and continued towards the walls above behind the bivouac. Only the luck that there were other people inside the bivouac with lights on allowed them to identify the shelter for the night and avoid calling for help... Let's hope it served as a lesson not to go around at night, poorly equipped and without a flashlight. In any case, when I arrived at the bivouac I discovered with regret that 2 bags full of waste (including organic waste) had been abandoned and the beds left in disarray with blankets and pillows in bulk. Perhaps the geniuses thought that since it is a freely accessible structure they could mistreat it. I won't say anything else...

The Gesero hut, close to the mountain pasture of the same name, is an alpine refuge located in the municipality of Arbedo-Castione, in the Canton of Ticino, in the Arbedo valley. It has been closed for several years, so make sure it is open if you want to stop here.
