Memorial dedicated to the memory of the 700 dead of the maquis of Ain and Haut Jura This work, due to the initiative of Colonel ROMAN PETIT, chief of the maquis of Ain, was sculpted by Charles MACHET in this site chosen by the leaders of the Resistance because of the abuses committed in Cerdon, a serious clash inflicted on enemy troops in this sector in July 1944, to allow this project to be integrated in perfect symbiosis with virgin nature. This memorial, dedicated to the memory of the 700 dead of the maquis of Ain and Haut Jura, will remain a testimony of gratitude to those who gave their lives for our freedom. It is above all, through the symbol of beauty of this woman breaking her chains, the incarnation of Victory over all oppressions and dictatorships.
