What a beautiful hidden world! I was thrilled when I made my first hike here and came across the two stone blocks above the Causse Méjean. These two monoliths are commonly called the "Vase de Sèvre" and the "Vase de Chine," in reference to their striking shapes.

This improbable rock formation overlooks the Jonte valley. The origin of its name comes from the 19th century when a walker saw it from afar, the appearance of the rock inspired the shape of a petrified mushroom.

The prehistoric Mushroom Rock overlooks the Jonte gorges and the village of Rozier. Its very evocative name dates from the 19th century and is the inspiration of a walker who saw it from afar. Immediately, the silhouette of the rock inspires him with the shape of a petrified mushroom.

The Rocher de Capluc is a formidable rocky promontory at the tip of the Causse Méjean (causse located between the gorges of the Tarn and the Jonte, therefore between the Causse de Sauveterre and the Causse Noir, hence its name “Causse Médian”). It thus offers a 360° view of these gorges and causses.

A former defense and observation post surmounted by a vanished castle, the rock of Capluc is today a must-see on the Causse Méjean. Its summit is accessible by ladders (no equipment is necessary for the ascent). It is now topped by a large iron cross which dominates the confluence of the Tarn to the west and the Jonte to the south. The name of Capluc derives from the association of the words “cap” and “luz” which would mean “head” and “light”. These words would thus symbolize the place where the first rays of the rising sun shine.

Standing alongside the path, the vases of Sèvres and China are two endemic monoliths of the Causse Méjean. Observe them to understand the origin of their names. In addition to delighting curious geologists, they are also a paradise for climbing enthusiasts. With a bit of luck, you can watch some of them reach the top and flirt with the vultures circling in the air.

Les Arcs de Saint-Pierre are geological curiosities located in the heart of the former Gallo-Roman village of resin workers (professionals who bleed into the pines to harvest the resin). Between the tall pines that occupy the space, erosion has carved curious shapes in the limestone, opening up majestic arches. Nearby, there is a cave-burial where audacious trepanations were performed 3,500 years before our era. The shadows cast by the trees make it the perfect place for a break. However, be very respectful of this place considered as an archaeological jewel.

it was christened "Prehistoric Mushroom Rock" in the 19th century by a hiker who distinguished it from a distance compared to a mushroom, petrified since the dawn of time. It is a huge peduncular rock that stands at an altitude of 893 meters on the Causse Noir. With a length of 22 meters, it is the largest of its kind that we find, all Causses together. Vegetation has taken over again and despite a fire that consumed 500 m2 near the site on September 3, 2003, the rock is becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
