Partially classified as a nature reserve and Natura 2000 site, Lake Léon is very popular with nature lovers. Discover a rare ecosystem made up of multiple habitats: aquatic area, wet moors, peat bogs, reed beds, wet meadows. The lake is home to a great diversity of fauna and flora: mammals such as the otter, the coypu or the European mink, many insects and birds such as the grey heron, reptiles such as the European pond turtle, commonly called the marsh turtle. In spring and autumn, birdwatching and photography enthusiasts come to admire populations of migratory birds stopping on the lake. To the west of the lake, the Courant d'Huchet meanders over more than 600 hectares to the Atlantic Ocean. This site, nicknamed "the Landes Amazon", is classified as a nature reserve and offers visitors trails through lush vegetation. Visit the Maison de la Réserve on the banks of the lake for an educational discovery of local biodiversity. Embark on a “galup” (traditional flat-bottomed boat) and let yourself be guided by the boatmen through 10km of wild landscapes, between marshes, dunes and peat bogs. Very worth seeing, you have to see it

Superb wooded park located on the banks of the Soustons pond where bald cypresses or Louisiana cypresses reign supreme. Not very shy, countless squirrels have taken up residence in this beautiful park, a spectacle not to be missed. The Batby Inn located at the entrance to the park is an excellent restaurant.

The peat bog is a very special environment, made up of waterlogged plants whose residues accumulate to form peat. It is the habitat of several protected species: the Fadet des Laiches, a rare butterfly that flies from mid-June to mid-July. But also several carnivorous plants, the best known of which is Drosera. One of the streams feeding the bog is also home to the Agrion de Mercure, a small blue dragonfly very sensitive to water quality. Classified as a natura 2000 zone, a path on stilts has been laid out to discover this wetland that was once common in our region but is now endangered. Do you smell this smell? It is the thermal water that springs naturally in Dax. If you approach, have fun touching the water that comes out of the fountain, you can see that it is naturally hot.

The hot fountain known as the Nèhe spring takes its name from a Norse goddess of water. It is built over what is believed to be an ancient Roman bath. The water is at a temperature of 64°C and along with the mineralization of the water and silt from the local Ardor River, a thermal mud is made which is used locally as a rheumatology treatment.
