Hargibel or Argibel in Basque is a summit located on the French-Spanish border at 985 meters above sea level. Don't miss the dancing stone called Harrikulunka which is located just below the rocky ridge.

Fountain before arriving at the Spanish border

This pass is on the border between Spain and France, at an altitude of 1,337 metres. It forms part of the Camino de Santiago and has been the protagonist of numerous legends, among which are the passage through here of the armies of the Emperor Charlemagne and Napoleon.

Historical and highest point of the tour

Delimiting the Spain-France border, this pass is an ideal place to take a break and enjoy the wonderful landscape of the Selva de Irati. A few meters from here there is a water source and some small buildings that can serve as shelter if you need it.

On the slopes of Mount Argibel appear the rocks of Arrikulunka, the "dancing stone" (harria/stone, kulunka/balancing). The megalith is a large sandstone rock superimposed on another horizontal one in such a way that when a person stands on the stone in the correct corner it causes a small rocking. Legend has it that the rock was thrown by one of the Navarrese gentiles, some say that it was Roldán himself, with the intention of destroying the cathedral of Pamplona but the shot failed and the stone fell in the mountains of Baztán.
