185 Million Years of Earth's History: The 95-mile stretch of coastline, from Orcombe Point in Exmouth to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage, exposes a continuous sequence of rocks spanning the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods of the Mesozoic Era. This makes it the only place on Earth where such a vast and sequential record of geological time is easily accessible.

This early Iron Age hillfort, taken over by the Romans when they invaded, has double and triple ramparts. The parallel double ramparts on the east and west flanks are connected along the northern border and are unmistakably visible. Because the cliff face acted as defence, it is probable that there were never ramparts along the southern end. Hut circles are visible within the interior of the fort. During a minor excavation in 1939 fragments of Iron Age pottery, as well as sling-stones and bones were found in a pit near the western entrance. Subsequent landslides have revealed the floor of the hillfort. The continual ground disturbances at the southern fringe increase the possibility of further archaeological finds. However, the twin hazards of the cliff erosion and the possibility of unexploded military shells from the Lulworth Ranges command extreme caution.

Worbarrow Bay is a large broad and shallow bay just to the east of Lulworth Cove. The residents of Worbarrow were required to leave their homes in 1943, including the Miller family who had lived at Worbarrow for many generations. Little evidence now remains of the eight cottages and coastguard station (disbanded in 1910) that once stood close to the bay. The area is only accessible when the ranges are closed.

The Dorsetshire Gap is a very atmospheric location, very easy to imagine Medieval traders passing through it. Be aware that the bridleways too and from it are tough, the tracks marked on the maps may not exist on the ground, cycling can be hard an slow, Still worth a visit.

Woolsbarrow Hillfort is located in a clearing in the forests of Bloxworth Heath. The nearest town is Bere Regis, about 3+1⁄4 miles (5.2 km) to the west-northwest of the hillfort. The heath is a popular walking area and the site can be reached by public footpath. Woolsbarrow is a slight univallate hillfort on a flat-topped knoll on the plateau of Bloxworth Heath, which separates the rivers Sherford to the east and Piddle to the west. The hillfort is marked by a single rampart about 20 feet (6.1 m) below the top of the gravel knoll and covers an area of around 2+1⁄4 acres (0.91 ha). The eastern part of the hillfort has been damaged by sand and gravel extraction, but much of it survives well and has the potential for further archaeological evidence to be uncovered. It is one of only about 150 slight univallate hillforts nationally and is of national importance.

An exceptionally pretty semi-circular bay, this is a wonderful place for a swim or to simply admire the stunning chalk cliffs. Worbarrow Bay is part of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site and fairly out of the way, making it usually quiet. It's important to note that the bay falls within the Lulworth Firing Ranges and therefore access is limited to most weekends and public holidays. Dating back to the 9th-5th centuries BC, this relatively low-lying hillfort rises out of Bloxworth Heath. The heath itself has plenty of hiking trails criss-crossing it as well as an abundance of insect, bird and wildlife. There's a trig pillar on top of the fort, at 220 feet (67 m) and if you ramble about the fort a little, you'll find interesting views of the undulating heathland.

6월 18, 2020, The Dorsetshire Gap
The Dorsetshire Gap is, or Dorset Gap as it's known for short, is a dip in the Dorset Downs chalk ridge between Nordon Hill and Nettleton Tout, close to the settlement of Higher Melcombe. A number of different bridleways run through and over this pass, including the ancient Wessex Ridgeway. It's thought that this point was part of a network of trading routes that date back as far as the Middle Ages.

Located on a gravel knoll, Woolsbarrow Fort can be found at the steepest point of Wareham Forest. It is a little known hill fort, being the smallest in south east Dorset. There are some incredible views to be seen at the top.
