Botany Bay, one of Thanet's most photographed bays, is famous. This hidden gem offers breathtaking views of white cliffs and beautiful chalk formations. At low tide, Botany Bay is an ideal spot for fossil hunting and exploring the tide pools. At high tide, there's plenty of exposed sand to discover, but due to the bay's shape, the ends are cut off at high tide. Kingsgate Bay was originally called St. Bartholomew's Gate until King Charles II landed here in 1683 with his brother, the Duke of York, and ordered the renaming. Kingsgate Castle, built in 1763, stands majestically above the beach. Kingsgate Bay is home to some of the most beautiful sea caves in Thanet and is approximately 150 meters wide. The sandy bay offers peace and seclusion and is accessible via a steep staircase. Located just above the White Cliffs of Dover, Kingsdown Beach is a secluded pebble beach with numerous benches suitable for picnics. At low tide, some sandy areas and a chalk shelf are exposed. The beach is bordered by grassy shrubs and flanked on one side by chalk cliffs. It is a popular local spot for kayaking and has many rock pools to explore. The beach and dunes around the village are important for migratory birds and insects, and for rare plants. The beach and cliffs are part of the Site of Special Scientific Interest which extends as far as Folkestone.

This part of the coastline is not as interesting as the White Cliffs or other parts of the coast, so it was good to see something of note

The tidal pool is believed to be the biggest tidal pool in the UK, reaching depths of 6ft in places. This is a great place to stop for a swim, especially in the warmer months. The pool was built and opened in 1937 and now Grade II listed.

When the tide is out it is great for fossils and exploring rock pools. Plenty of exposed sand to enjoy when the tide is in but due to its shape at high tide the ends of the beach are cut off.
