Pocklington is a classic English market town, located just 15 miles (24 km) from the city of York. Pocklington is known for its red-roofed buildings and unusual street names. Among the town's treasures lies Burnby Hall Gardens, a horticultural haven often referred to as the 'jewel in Yorkshire's crown' – a mandatory stop for anyone visiting.

Heslington Tillmire is an open marshy grassland and Site of Special Scientific Interest located near Fulford. The grassland features an array of fen plants that provide important habitat to a number of bird species including pintail, lapwing and curlew.

Several historians of York mention Pikeing Well (also known as Lady Well and Spring Well) in the 18th and 19th centuries as one of the Georgian attractions of the city. It is associated with the promenade called New Walk which was laid out in 1732-4 for public use and entertainment. Initially the walk was named ‘The Long Walk’ but it became better known as ‘New Walk’ by which name it was popularly called.

The colourful fields and rolling hills of Garrowby Hill inspired famous artist David Hockney, who painted them in 1998. From the top, you can enjoy the panoramic view over the Wold and its patchwork farmland. There is also an RAF memorial at the summit to commemorate a Halifax Bomber which crashed on the hill in 1944.
