12월 22, 2024, RSPB Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve
Lots of viewing platforms along the clifftop public footpath, but early morning in December is definitely not the best time to view the birds, I didn't see many species or individual birds at all. Maybe I scared them off :). Summer probably much better when they are nesting.

Lots of parking, very quiet in winter, and cracking routes along the south and north of Flamborough Head. Take the north route past North Landing and Thornwick Bay, much more scenic than the southerly route.

12월 22, 2024, Smugglers' Caves at Thornwick Bay
Narrow track runs down to this little bay, very quiet in winter and not as busy as North Landing. There is a metal staircase at the bottom of the track that drops you onto the beach, where the rocks are initially quite large. In Dec 24 the steps were still open, but part of the track right next to them was taped of by the council as part of the footpath has collapsed due to erosion. Still perfectly safe and accessible, just need to exercise caution.

If you can, walk the entire section between the lighthouse and Bempton Cliffs, there are many and varied little bays and rock formations. Footpath muddy in winter, but not terribly boggy. Cracking views and photo opportunities.

Fabulous spot, High Stacks is easily viewed from the clifftop public footpath. In winter there are lots of seals on the shingle beach immediately north of the stacks.

The monument is the former Flamborough Head lighthouse and includes an octagonal tower constructed of coursed chalk rubble with stone dressings. It was built in 1674 as a business venture by Sir John Clayton, but never used.

truly unique place I have been back to again and again. Plenty of miles to be covered in more or less any direction.

Flamborough Head is the only area of chalk cliff coastline in the north-east. It's a SSSI and nature reserve for the fauna and waterbirds which nest here. There are two lighthouses standing, the older chalk tower is the oldest surviving lighthouse in the UK, it was built in 1669. The newer tower was built in 1806. The Headlands Family restaurant and bar is in a great position, serving meals and snacks and open every day from 9:00 - 17:30.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs is a nature reserve managed for the seabirds. The visitor centre is open to the public with lots of information as well as a shop, cafe and toilets. Look out for Gannett, Guillemot and Puffin as well as Barn Owls.

We had a great day but all the stairs down to the beach almost killed me , seeing the seal lions and puffins made up for all the stairs

The lighthouse is at the mid way point of doing a loop around the Flamborough coast. Great place to stop and pick up some refreshments. Area is usually busy especially lunch.

Due to where this is placed you can not walk to it without getting wet. Even during low tide water will come to chest. Would recommend paddleboarding to it as you can see the area and then go to the caves next to it.

Multiple parking areas around Flamborough would always suggest doing a loop around including the lighthouse where there is refreshment stations. Accessibility with wheelchair is limited.

The rock looks a bit like a dinosaur drinking water. Imagine!

A lighthouse was first built on the Flamborough Headland in 1669 but was never lit. The current lighthouse was built in 1806 and acts as a waypoint for deep sea vessels and coastal traffic as well as marking the Flamborough Headland for vessels heading for the ports of Scarborough and Bridlington.
