Discovered in 1993 by Oreste Caroppo, a well-known enthusiast and connoisseur of the Salento area. The Dolmens are located on a small promontory called the Plao district, a term of Grika origin, which would mean "chianca", or a slab of light stone, typical of the Apulian territory. Furthermore, on the surrounding rocky surface, there are a series of channels similar to those of the Dolmen Stabile of Giuggianello, most likely used to drain liquids during the performance of certain rituals.

It is the most suggestive tree species of all the Salento flora, belonging to the fagaceae family, such as the chestnut and the beech, which recall some characteristics, such as the considerable size. The Quercia Vallonea di Corigliano in fact, is about 15 meters high and has a crown of 20 meters in diameter, set majestically within a small park which is home, among other things, to numerous events related to the Grika culture. The entry of this tree species, which comes from the Middle East and can only be admired in the Salento area, dates back to the year one thousand and in the local dialect its name becomes valani, which in Greek means "acorn". The ancient tree is characterized precisely by large acorns, surmounted by a dome rich in tannin, a chemical substance used in the past for tanning and making leather, a very common activity in Salento. It is one of the few surviving specimens in the area.
