The Sele is an important river of Campania 64 km long, the second in the region and in the South of Italy for average volume of water after the Volturno, a tributary of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The course of the river is protected by the Natural Reserve Foce Sele - Tanagro. The river originates on the south-eastern slopes of Monte Paflagone (buttress of Monte Cervialto), near the municipality of Caposele in the province of Avellino.
