The cave of San Michele Arcangelo is a natural cavity located on the western slope of Monte Raione in the municipality of Olevano sul Tusciano in the province of Salerno. The Sele is an important river of Campania 64 km long, the second in the region and in the South of Italy for average volume of water after the Volturno, a tributary of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The course of the river is protected by the Natural Reserve Foce Sele - Tanagro. The river originates on the south-eastern slopes of Monte Paflagone (buttress of Monte Cervialto), near the municipality of Caposele in the province of Avellino.
