Piazza Bovio is one of the most famous squares and symbols of Piombino, loved for the splendid view of the sea. Over the centuries this square has always remained the natural terrace that seems to want to connect the continent with the Tuscan Archipelago and in particular with the island of Elba. For centuries the life of the city has revolved around this square. In Italy there are few examples of natural squares that can compare to this one, which seems to lie a little asleep by the sea: the same sea that has always been the real protagonist of the history of Piombino, whose economic growth began at the time of the Maritime Republics, when the Republic of Pisa transformed a small inhabited place into one of the most important maritime bases along the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Unfortunately, the nature reserve, which is supported by the WWF, is not freely accessible. I was unable to find out the opening times or whether it is even open at all.

The view and the atmosphere are unique.

Piombino is definitely worth it! It's a bit of a tricky drive into the old town, but it's worth it.
