This avenue was originally created in the 19th century when today's Via Aurelia was rebuilt. Side streets were created, for example today's Viale Cepressi, and the street was embellished with cypress trees (poplar trees were planted first). The street acquired its current appearance in the 19th and early 1920s of the 20th century. There are approximately 2,400 cypress trees over a length of 5 kilometers.
