아베르노 호수는 포추올리 근처에 있는 화산 활동으로 형성된 호수로, 신화에 따르면 지하 세계로 가는 입구이며, 아마도 고대 시대에 피어오르던 유황 증기 때문일 것입니다. 호수는 아이네이아스가 아이네이스에서 시빌라의 안내를 받아 저승으로 가기 위해 방문했습니다. 역사적으로 아우구스투스 시대에는 인근 루크리노 호수와 함께 내부 수역을 이루었던 군항인 소위 포르투스 율리우스의 본거지가 되었습니다. 나중에 접근로가 쉽게 퇴적되어 버려진 후, 푸테올리 상업 항구의 선착장 단지인 리파 푸테올라나에 통합되었습니다. 호숫가를 따라 소위 "아폴로 신전"이 있는데, 실제로는 넓은 온천 복합 단지의 홀로, 천연 열원을 활용하기 위해 플레그레아니 평원에 세워진 수많은 시설 중 하나입니다.

I recommend parking the car in the space outside the Monte Nuovo oasis, crossing the oasis and then going down towards Lake Averno, along this lake there are farmhouses and restaurants

Beautiful volcanic lake with a very simple and comfortable circular tour, during which it is possible to admire local fauna and flora. I recommend it together with the circular tour of Monte Nuovo to have a view of the volcanic panorama of the Campi Flegrei area.

Lago d'Averno is an easy biking destination on usually quiet rural roads. The volcanic lake in the Avernus crater is around 4 kilometres west of Pozzuoli. Along the way you can pass the volcanic field known as the Phlegraean Fields (Campi Flegrei) and see part of the wider Campanian volcanic arc. The road around the lake is roughly circular: the lake measures two kilometres in circumference and is up to 60 metres deep.

Lake Lucrino is a natural basin located on the coast of the Campi Flegrei, a short distance from Lake Averno.
