On the west slope of Capoliveri there are the mines of Vallone and Ginevro, the last underground mine on the island of Elba, the only one with the largest deposits of magnetite in Europe. Characterized by 7 km of underground workings, with quarries that are as much as 54 meters below sea level. In 1981 the mine closed and in 2011, after 30 years of inactivity, it reopened its doors for guided tours for curious visitors that will lead you into the heart of iron, in the middle of a fascinating and ancient world, surrounded by the beaches of the mines. Various works worked inside the Calamita quarry.
