Memorial stone for the crash of a Lufthansa JU 52/3m (identification: D-AJYR) on a mail flight from Berlin to Cologne and Frankfurt/Main on April 25, 1935. The inscription is very martial, as it comes from the Nazi era with corresponding vocabulary. All three crew members did not survive the crash. Among them was Franz Kneer, born on May 31, 1895 in Kempten (Allgäu), an aviation pioneer.

On April 25, 1935, flight captain Kneer had an accident in bad weather with a Junkers Ju 52/3m mail machine after hitting a tree while traveling by air from Berlin via Cologne to Frankfurt near Hallgarten in the Rheingau. He and his two crew members were killed. Kneer was a pioneer in aviation and set a new world altitude record on November 7, 1928.

These are the last original trees that were used within the structure. The sometimes bizarre adhesions on the lower tree trunks are very striking. Only when the structure was abandoned could the trees grow upwards "normally". One can only hope that these old trees can withstand the increasingly drier summers for a while longer.

The rock pulpit towers a long way over the slope and impressively twisted cripple oaks grow on it.
