From here you can walk in the nature park. The border with Montenegro is not far away. There is a small entrance fee next to Trnovačko jezero. You can find out about prices and rules on the information table here.

There are several routes to the summit. One comes from Prijevor and is quite steep and not so safe. You can also get to the summit from Montenegro. The route is not so strenuous there. Of course you can do both routes - there and back, as in my case. The view from Maglić is very beautiful. There are also quite a few people on the way.

The Peruica jungle has been growing for 20,000 years. In -Europe you can only find such old forests in Montenegro or Belarus. A large part of the 2,600 plant species in Sutjeska are native to this forest. From the impenetrable thicket, spruces, pines and beeches shoot into the sky. The treetops are enthroned up to sixty meters above the forest floor. Some of these giants are over 300 years old.

"The Valley of Heroes" is home to these and is the center of the national park. The name is no coincidence: in 1943 the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army under Josip Tito succeeded in destroying the Axis powers. And that despite the fact that around 18,000 partisans had to defend themselves against a superior force of 128,000 enemy soldiers. So it is not surprising that an impressive monument was dedicated to the Yugoslav fighters. The monument is reminiscent of two gigantic hands that stretch towards the sky. An impressive picture, surrounded by mighty mountains and unspoilt forests.

At 2,386 m, Maglić Mountain is the highest mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina and lies on the border with Montenegro. Together with the nearby mountains Volujak and Zelengora, the Maglić is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
