Directly in front of the town hall is a beautiful fountain that lends the square a lively, almost Mediterranean atmosphere. The gentle splashing of the water, the stone surround, and the open design make it a pleasant place for a short break. Especially in summer, it creates a friendly, almost village-like impression that perfectly suits the character of Bretzfeld.

The Lion Fountain occupies a prominent position opposite the town hall and still marks the eastern edge of the former city fortifications, as the western city gate, the so-called Hostage Gate, stood here before its demolition at the end of the 17th century. The fountain, crafted in late Baroque style in 1744 and 1763 respectively, is an eloquent testament to early modern water supply in Neuenstadt before the introduction of a comprehensive water supply network. It also served as a communicative and social meeting place for the townspeople, who obtained their utility water and watered their livestock here. The lion sculpture atop the fountain's column, from which the fountain takes its name, acts as a representative supporter for the Württemberg coat of arms, through which the dukes of the Württemberg-Neuenstadt branch, who formerly resided in the castle, expressed their sovereignty over the town.

An imposing Renaissance gable adorns the former watermill. Outside, the millrace is preserved – it once ran through an archway directly into the mill building. A historic wooden pavilion can be found in the small park on the "mill island." The ground floor of the Brettach Mill houses a small village museum with a miller's workshop and restored pieces of historic mill machinery. It is open on select Sundays throughout the year and for groups by appointment.
