The "Vogelhalde Sindringen-Ohrnberg" nature reserve in the lower Kocher valley has been home to one of the largest grey heron colonies in the Stuttgart administrative district for decades. At 216 hectares, the area is unique, being the largest of the 21 nature reserves in the Hohenlohe district.

I'll go into the entire bike path. Many people here have probably ridden the Kocher-Jagst cycle path. We rode the route with “organic” (normal) trekking bikes and luggage. We are in good shape and often go on cycling holidays. There are some pretty steep climbs that we barely managed. And we're good at uphill. Tip: Look at the elevation profile beforehand.

A wonderful path through the now wooded, former quarry. With some information about geology and numerous edges where you can clearly see the stone layers. It is not recommended to leave the paths. Not just to protect nature. The rocks are not secured and every now and then a rock or even an entire wall comes down.

Former quarry where so-called reed sandstone was mined. The name Schilfsandstein comes from the imprints of fossil horsetails in the rock, which were previously mistakenly interpreted as reeds. Today this type of rock is known as the "Stuttgart Formation". The reed sandstone, which is easy to work with, was often used in the past centuries to build houses, bridges, churches and for monumental buildings such as castles or palaces. Even today, reed sandstone is quarried in places and used as a building material for the renovation of historical buildings. The local "Heilbronner sandstone" has great cultural and historical significance for the region around Heilbronn - as you can easily see from the cityscape (see old town hall, old post office, ...)

It's always worth a trip. for hiking around it or by bike as an excursion destination. For swimming and relaxing.
