The Priestersee is a lake west of the Schaalsee, north of the village of Zuckerhut in the district of Duchy of Lauenburg, which belongs to the community of Seedorf. It is about 15 hectares and up to 10.1 m deep. In the east it is connected to the Großzecher Küchensee and thus to the western part of the Schaalsee. The lake belongs to the nature reserve Schaalsee with Niendorfer Binnensee, Priestersee and Großzecher Küchensee, Phulsee, Seedorfer Küchensee and the surrounding area. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priestersee_(Schaalsee)

A beautiful hiking trail leads around the Seedorfer Küchensee. It's worth going around the lake here and enjoying the beautiful lake views. I can highly recommend it. The Seedorfer Küchensee is a lake west of the Schaalsee, north of the village of Seedorf. The lake is approx. 43 hectares in size and up to 6 m deep and separated from the Schaalsee by the Seedorfer Werder, into which it drains via a 240 meter long watercourse. The lake belongs to the nature reserve Schaalsee with Niendorfer Binnensee, Priestersee and Großzecher Küchensee, Phulsee, Seedorfer Küchensee and the surrounding area. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seedorfer_K%C3%BCchensee

Around the Seedorfer Küchensee there are many benches to take a break, there are great things to discover! The circular route is worth it!

A living fence made of sloping willow branches - may look inconspicuous, but is really great! For years we have followed how this fence develops, grows and thrives. We are always excited about this lively, relatively inconspicuous natural work of art. It always reminds me of my childhood. My father had built / woven an arbor in the garden from willow branches stuck in the ground, which grew en masse here on the Eider. A "leftover" from the time in which the convicts had woven baskets etc. out of the willow branches in the penitentiary of that time. The willow cuttings have almost all grown without further support and have made the arbor "opaque". So the whole arbor just kept growing. We even had a bench woven from willow rods, which just grew into the ground, sprouted and began to grow. Unfortunately, our beautiful garden in Rendsburg on Kieler Strasse was simply "flattened" by the construction of the new park settlement. What a shame, I would have loved to have watched the growth of the arbor and bench over the years.

Great view of the area. The lookout tower looks a bit like an old border tower.

There is not much to see here, but the hikers' parking lot, at least the one that you can drive to, is a good starting point for the path along the Schaalsee.

If you come from the lake, there is a short but steep climb up here. You need a run-up and power. The ruins of the Slavic castle lie on a natural spur on the "Dutzower See". The castle was once well protected on all sides by open water and swampy terrain. The ramparts have unfortunately been severely demolished over time and are now only 2.6 m high. The castle is now 53 by 73 m. Most of the pottery shards from the 10th and 11th centuries were found in the southern part of the Slavic complex. The entrance was also located here in the form of a wooden bridge or a boardwalk. During an excavation in 1960 on the opposite peninsula in the lake, pottery was also found that is very similar to that in the castle. It is therefore believed that there was a settlement here that belonged to the castle. Perhaps a bridge at a narrow part of the lake led to the ring castle. The peninsula with the settlement is today in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the castle wall of Kittlitz in Schleswig-Holstein. After the Christianization of the area, the village of Kneese was created 1.5 km further southeast in the 12th and 13th. Century. It is believed that this village emerged from the former Slavic settlement and castle after the older facilities had to be abandoned. www.slawenburgen.hpage.com/schleswig-holstein.html

Beautiful wooden tower with wonderful views of the Schaalsee and the beautiful nature around here. Right next door in the Schaalseehof you can fortify yourself with coffee and cake or buy delicious smoked fish / fish rolls. The char is highly recommended.

We like them, these simple but very practical observation towers: They provide (often, not always) a fantastic overview of the environment and often also various information boards, as here too. And you can also take a break here, because they are mostly covered and also offer a seat opportunity.
