A challenging pass in the Tafeljura, the climb is made up of a small road with a maximum gradient of 15% and little traffic. The scenery is very scenic, with magnificent panoramas along the way.

A very tough climb from both sides, with gradients in some places well into the double figures, but the views during the ride and from the saddle are phenomenal. The World War I Fortification Memorial Trail is also recommended.

Coming from Langenbruck, it is only a small pass, but with a magnificent view down to Mümliswil. In the opposite direction, you climb a few meters in altitude, but Langenbruck itself is hidden behind a small forest and down the valley towards Holderbank / Balsthal. You can rest a little off the road on a bench under two trees (also with the best view down to Mümliswil)

9월 11, 2023, Hauenstein Military Road to Belchenflue
The former supply route for the fortifications built in the Hauenstein area during the First World War runs between Ifenthal and the Belchenflue. As the “Hauenstein Fortification” they are part of recent Swiss history. The aim of the building was to prevent enemy incursions into the Swiss plateau and to protect the Olten railway junction. Immediately after the general mobilization on August 1, 1914, soldiers began construction. This mountain road has existed in practically unchanged form since 1915, the year it was completed. The most striking section is between the Chambersberg and the Belchenflue, where the road had to be built into the rock. Other engineering structures worth mentioning are dry-walled retaining walls and drainage and, finally, the numerous colorful cantonal coats of arms and troop inscriptions that commemorate the builders. The well-preserved monument of handcrafted road construction resembles Alpine mountain passes in many places and offers numerous viewpoints into the Central Plateau. At the end you will find the viewpoint on the Belchenflue.

Quiet, low-traffic, steady ascent. Has a nice incline and good driveable roads. As a recommendation, I would first drive the Teufelsschlucht from Hägendorf via Bärenwil, then through Langenbruck and to the Mümliswil viewpoint. You will also receive the Hauenstein Pass as a gift. Definitely recommended. Is a super great area with a racing bike and a good basic shape.

A beautiful and relatively steep pass below the Swiss Belchen (which forms a mystical triangle with the German Belchen and the Grand Ballon in the Vosges and was used in earlier times to determine the seasons and for astronomical observations). Warning: in summer it is also popular with motorcyclists and sports car fans.

a typical "small" pass on side roads in the Jura: narrow one and a half lane road, inconspicuous pass sign with altitude information on the hiking trail sign, a limited number of car parking spaces (often quite crowded). All in all actually rather unadorned and functionally sober. For the cyclist, however, a beautiful and demanding pass. And through the integration into the Belchen triangle with the "big brothers" Grand Ballon and Deutscher Belchen, this rather inconspicuous pass also acquires a mystical meaning that is so typical for cycling, with corresponding mention in many a tour report.

12월 22, 2022, Chilchzimmersattel Ascent from Langenbruck
The west ascent from Langenbruck to the Chilchzimmersattel below the Belchenfluh looks easier than the approach from the north-east from Eptingen, but also has a few steep climbs ready. After all, you drive on a sunny slope and the risk of fog is a little lower.

Immediately after the general mobilization on August 3rd, 1914, General Wille gave the order to implement the already existing plans for fortification Hauenstein. Thousands of soldiers began building 26 kilometers of military roads 24 hours a day. In August 1917, after 2 million hours of work, the most important works were completed.
