Great day trip destination, although the castle isn't that big. But it takes an hour to walk around it with kids.

The Pleinfelder Gate marks the end of Pleinfelder Straße and the beginning of Rosental Street. The gate is located in the north of Ellingen's old town, east of the castle park, at an altitude of 398 m above sea level.[2] The previous building dates from the 16th century; the current early Baroque building dates from 1660 and is thus the oldest part of the city fortifications.[3] At the highest point of Ellingen's old town is the gate tower, which is flanked by two round towers. The massive Pleinfelder Gate is decorated with the coat of arms of the Teutonic Order.[4] The gate now houses a local history museum and a toy museum.[5] The building is part of the Ellingen Baroque circular trail.
