Belogradchik Fortress is an ancient fortress on the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountains. It is one of the best-preserved fortresses in Bulgaria and a cultural monument of national importance. The original fortress was built between the 1st and 3rd centuries, when the region was part of the Roman Empire. The surrounding rock formations served as natural protection. Fortified walls were practically only built on the northwest and southeast sides, as the courtyard was surrounded on the other sides by cliffs up to 70 meters high. Originally, Belogradchik Fortress served as a surveillance facility rather than a purely defensive one. An easy trail through beautiful, diverse forest. There is no water in dry summers.

The waterfall is always worth a trip. It is easy to reach from Teteven. From the car park it is only a short walk through the forest. It can get crowded on weekends.

Even though this mountain is relatively small, you have a beautiful panoramic view in all directions... especially worthwhile at sunrise

Small but really nice! Come in, climb to the upper floor and look at the exciting natural scenery!

Beautiful. On one side southern Bulgaria, on the other side northern Bulgaria and you sometimes walk right along the ridge. Also perfect for day trips from the Troyan Pass (Beklemeto) to the Kozya Stena hut and back.

Make sure it is during the wet season otherwise the waterfall will be completely dry, as was the case at the end of August 2023

One of my favorite peaks. You can see a big part of the country to the north and south. Amazing views and panoramas. Also paths to the peak a nice there are no rocks or stones like Pirin and the highest parts of Rila. But the weather is probably the most dynamic in the country. Be prepared for a lovely day to a bad thunderstorm or heavy rain. Anyway, I totally recommend climbing the peak from all starting points. From everywhere is different and beautiful.
