Beautiful hike to Wharariki Beach.

This truly beautiful waterfall is accessible via a mostly comfortable path through the dense jungle, almost always in the shade. The not-too-long walk (about 3.5 kilometers there and back) is definitely worth it! The detour to this bay (which is a bit further away) is also worthwhile, and not just for the waterfall!

The sand dunes are fantastic. From above you have a beautiful view of the beach. You can often see seals here too

A very beautiful and diverse national park! Here, in addition to nature, the history of human settlement is stronger than in other New Zealand parks. The first Māori settled along this stretch of coast at least 500 years ago. In 1642, the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman was the first European to reach New Zealand and drop anchor here. From around 1855, the region was settled by white immigrants who cut wood and tried to gain arable land by clearing by fire. In addition, granite was mined in places in quarries. The need to protect the unique landscape from further exploitation was recognized early in the 20th century. Today, since the area is under nature protection, only relatively little is left of the human intervention. A geological feature of the park is its karsts and caves (in the area of Takaka Hill and Canaan Downs). (wikipedia)
