The approximately 2 km long circular trail in the gorge is an absolute must - the water has an incredibly Turkish color and the views of the river are breathtaking and always different 😊

Unfortunately, we were unlucky and couldn't see the reflection of the mountains in the lake 😥 Nevertheless, it's a beautiful hike with great viewpoints - it's definitely worth it even then.

Thunder Creek Falls is an impressive waterfall in Mount Aspiring National Park on New Zealand's South Island. The falls are approximately 28 meters high and are situated directly on the Haast River, surrounded by stunning scenery of silverbeech and kamahi forests. Access to the waterfall is very easy: a short, 200-meter walk leads from the parking area on the Haast Highway to a viewing platform offering a direct view of the falls. The walk is easy and suitable for all ages.¹ ² ³ The waterfall is particularly impressive after rainfall or in spring when the snowmelt begins. Therefore, the best time to visit is during the wet season or in spring when the water flow is at its highest.³ ⁴ Nearby attractions such as Fantail Falls, Blue Pools, and Roaring Billy Falls are all located along the Haast Highway and are easily accessible.⁵ ⁶ ⁷

Beautiful path through pretty forest

One of the most magical hike I’ve done so far. Incredibly easy access for so much visual pleasure. You feel like an Elf straight out of the Lord of the Rings saga.

Unfortunately the glacier is not accessible anymore so the only thing you see is some rough ice in the far distance. I would still recommend this hike though but more for the scenery along the way, especially Moraine walk.
